The paper that first reported it was the Daily Kansan which is the University of Kansas' newspaper. According to the Kansan Victor Ortiz said at a local fan event in Lawrence Kansas that he would be fighting Floyd Maywearther in September.
My take is Victor actually told the paper that he was either negotiating with Mayweather or Mayweather is who he wants to fight. Not that the fight is made and ready to go. Then the reporter, who is a college student because all of the writers for that paper are students, misunderstood what Ortiz said and wrote the article all of this "news" is coming from.
Thanks for this.
Of course, that's how false stuff spreads. And I don't just mean college student newspapers....
I've written here that if FLoyd is not done, he would have PRed a fight on the night of Pac's fight. So maybe he tried, and they couldn't get to terms with Ortiz in time.
Or maybe someone changed their mind.
At this point in time, if all FLoyd's fights are in preparation for a Pac fight, and he changed his mind on that one, maybe nothing else for him out there.
Could have been a misprint (September 17-Mexican Independence Day-has been the date mentioned for this potential fight). I still won't believe it until there's at least a press conference with both fighters though.
This bull**** was written by the Pac nuthugger who posted it. Mayweather/Ortiz will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Virtually all of Mayweather's recent fights have been fought there and this one will to. There will likely be fewer people in attendance than Pac/Mosley, but I guarantee it will have a larger gate than Pac/Mosley.
