  • Shane was turning Manny (circling towards Manny's right) so that Manny couldn't throw his left without exposing himself open. This was exactly what JMM did and has proven to be a blueprint on how to exploit southpaws and styles like Manny's. Manny couldn't use his left properly and he couldn't even use his angles.

Then Shane realized Manny also had a very effective right hand - jab, feint, and specially the right hook. Manny should have used that right more often than the left. I know he used it pretty much effectively but he could have done more and used his left as the feint.

Manny's right hand wasn't there though when he fought JMM the 1st and 2nd time. If they fought again JMM will go straight to the hospital after round 3.

If Shane was half the fighter he was 5-10 years ago that could have been a great fight. But when he got knocked down in the 3rd round it freaked him out and totally changed his mentality and became more concerned of not getting hit than throwing and hitting and scoring.

Floyd could take notes for this fight but then Roach is also. But if there's one guy that can exploit this weakness from Manny and utilize this blueprint of turning Manny to the fullest extent, it would be no one else but Floyd.

However... still I don't see how Floyd will answer to Manny's hand speed and determination. Even if he turns Manny and score high on the score cards, Manny will keep on coming and coming and coming and... Floyd can't run forever. Sooner or later he's gonna get hurt, and just like all other Manny opponents, he'll breakdown mentally.

    • Shane should be ashamed? why don't YOU try to fight a ..

..a guy like Manny..besides, Shane, I thought did better than Cotto. Shane felt Pac's power but he didn;t run away from Pac the way Cotto did.

Pacquiao did what he could to entertain the crowd. Although Mosley didn't put up a fight, he exposed Pacquiao and made him look human again. Any good boxer is going to give Pacquiao a lot of trouble. Therefore, I am convinced Floyd Mayweather beats him easily. I hope that after watching this performance, Floyd takes the fight with Manny.

Lets be honest, it's just a bargaining chip to get in the other fighter's head. He's not trying to 'clean the sport up', by any means.

I honestly think Floyd has the upper hand if they square off - but it's been sad to see him squirm and make the fight as difficult as possible to make.
        Yeah, let's be honest then....

Before the first negotiations, Pacquiao's not 'roiding. After initially stating they'd (Pacquiao) take any test Mayweather wanted and then backtracking by coming up with ridiculous excuses as to why Pacquiao can't test and then trying to dictate what days the test could be administered..... the guy could be using.

        So let's be honest.

        • At this stage in his career, I can't fault Shane for not taking the risks in that fight. He's put out plenty in his career already and has reportedly lost a fortune to his divorce and whatnot; so, if he was surviving for a payday in there, I can't knock him, he's not to blame.

The blame and pressure falls squarely on Arum/Team Pac and their matchmaking strategy for Manny, which was already under close scrutiny.

This one could hurt Pacquiao a little from a box-office perspective. It may put people on guard about shelling for Pac unless matched with an opponent who is perceived as highly relevant (Mayweather, Martinez). Not to mention that Floyd beat Shane (up) a lot more convincingly than Manny. We saw the last of Mosley in the ring with Mayweather.

Clottey (good, but never elite championship caliber) and Mosley (once truly elite, now accepted as clearly past prime and coming off a loss and a draw) were "stinkers" either side of Margarito (who helped produce an exciting fight, but was very shopworn and tailor-made).

The last 3 matchups in a row have been highly questionable for Pacquiao. Any of those 3 in isolation would be passable, but back-to-back they suggest a clear trend.

I predict Pac's relevance as a PPV draw and a P4P fighter starting to fade if he doesn't get Mayweather in the ring or take the risk on moving up to fight Martinez.

Maybe Marquez III can be sold to the public on the strength of Juan's past performances in the series. But it's getting very close to the hour where Team Pacquiao are forced to accept that they haven't done enough in recent times and elect to either meet a BIG challenge or call it a day on their man's ring career. If they refuse to do either of those, they should at least be gracious enough to get the heck off PPV.

Tonight convinced me more than ever that Floyd would box the ears off Manny.

          • This fight was a JOKE. Shane didn't want to win this fight from the start of rd 1. This was a pathetic effort of behalf of Shane Mosely. I wouldn't be suprised of Arum paid him to tank this fight. He clearly didn't try one bit to win it for some reason. He threw like 6 right hands that all landed yet him didn't want to keep setting it up..? Shane just wanted to be Manny's friend in the ring touching his gloves before the start of the round and at the end of the round, and also giving him a full love hug in round 12. A fighter mentally focused on winning isn't going to do that garbage. Manny is pretty hitable and i think Floyd will have his way with him if they fight.

Shane actually threw half the amount of punches he attempted against Mayweather. He also landed less on Pacquiao than he landed on Mayweather.
He was also a year older and coming off two twelve round beatings.

Awesome, now explain why Mayweather refused to fight without HIS test, as he didn't do when he returned from retirement and all his fights before that.

Pacquiao threw 500 punches this fight and I've seen him him throw more than 1000 punches in some of his other fights. Shane's boxing made Pacquiao look bad, alot of fighters are going to be watching this fight as a template. Any good boxer is going to make Manny Pacquiao look really bad. People are saying Pacquiao had an off night even though everyone is his camp was saying this was his best camp ever? Shane fought to survive and made Pacquiao look like a regular fighter. It's obvious that Pacquiao is a fighter who struggles against the boxer style. I think Pacquiao is only good against one specific type of fighter. A good smart fighter is going to give him a lot of trouble.

It's obvious this is still the same Pacquiao from 2005. The only thing that has change is his conditioning and his weight. Pacquiao was throwing the double jab followed by the left all night. Any good fighter will catch him coming in with that combination. Shane is shot and was making him miss alot. I think Mayweather beats him easily.

Really? Considering they already had Marquez lined up for his next fight instead of Mayweather. Sheep.
