Comments Thread For: Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley: Pre-Fight Report Card

by Cliff Rold - On March 12, 2005, Manny Pacquiao experienced something for the first and only time since the calendar ventured into the 2000’s.

    He lost.

It wasn’t a bad loss. The victor that night, Erik Morales, was and remains a bona fide Hall of Famer who turned in an incredible performance. With titles in three weight classes, Pacquiao was already the first man in history to officially win the lineal Flyweight and Featherweight titles (it reads officially because it is a feat better scoring could have conveyed to Fighting Harada decades earlier). The Morales loss wasn’t going to keep Pacquiao from Hall of Fame accolades. He’d proven a great enough fighter already to likely secure such honors.

Pacquiao has moved well beyond ‘great enough’ since.

In thirteen fights since the Morales loss, Pacquiao has won every time, eight times by stoppage. [Click Here To Read More]

I gotta say, I think that Mosely wll fight a great fight. Perhaps my pick is sentimental, but I, like some "experts," think that Pac coming in aggressive plays right into Sugar Man's hands. He has proven speed, concussive power, and perhaps is several steps slower than his prime, but he can ****. Let's not forget that everyone was saying before, that he went to the body like a "Mexican." That is his key....body shots. Pacquiao can be hurt to the body and Shane is just the guy to take advantage. I believe Pac is a great fighter, but I believe even more that Shane will give everyone a shocker and actually K.O. the PacMan. You heard it here first...If I had points I would bet them all on it! Shane in 10 on the strength of going to work and chopping down the massive Seqouia in Pacquiao.

well written article - some good points made. the fact that pacquiao has been a hall of fame LOCK going on a decade now seems to be forgotten. Also, Mosley was never as fast as Pacquiao, not even at lightweight. Pound for pound he might have packed more "explosive power" then Pac, but not as fast. I still say the main thing that separates pac is his natural, god given stamina. when mosley "power boxes" he only throws 30-40 punches per round. when tries to work the jab more he still never surpasses 50 punches per round. pac will throw double his punches with the same power in the 12th round, as the 1st

A little off-topic, but was I the only one who found it refreshing to see how much respect they showed for each other at the weigh-in?

              No smack talk.

They hugged, they smiled, they shook hands.

It's great to see two champions who appreciate what the other guy is doing for them, and knows that it's a business, not a schoolyard.

So what boxing can't have any hype in it now?? A boxer cant talk trash??? How long have u been watching boxing since 2008?

Alot of great boxers have been trash talkers, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones, ALI, Mike Tyson.

Not all boxers have to be boring and humble.
