No, most will buy the fight because it's a big event and then go back to ignoring the sport until the next super fight comes along.

IDC if we are the only ppl in the world who still watch boxing or if it is the least popular sport in the world as long as I can still watch good fights.

dlh-mayweather was billed as the fight to save boxing. Got a ton of casuals and newbies to buy into the hype... And it ended up being a huge dud. Turned a lot of people off from the sport and onto mma. I was reading an mma board discussion about them buying pac-mosley and most said they either used to watch boxing casually or they at least bought dlh-floyd and that fight and other issues (too many belts + champions, politics, etc) made them lose interest in the sport.

No one fight is going to 'save' the sport. A lot needs to be done to bring the masses back and right the ship. Wider exposure is a key step and top rank is working to bring the sport back to the networks, back to the mainstream and not just have it relegated to niche status on pay cable or ppv. Also, there needs to be one central commission with one code or rule book instead of each state or even Indian tribe being an autonomous body with differing protocols and rules. Same goes with the belt and sanctioning bodies- needs to be cut down by a lot and have fewer but recognized belts. No more diamond, sapphire, cubic zirconia interim vacant belt b.s.

Also, may be controversial but having a ton of promoters and all their beefs and emotional baggage obviously isn't helping the sport. One, maybe two promoters tops would go a long way towards ending the politics and bickering and make fights the fans want to see. The ufc has a dictatorship and monopoly and they're getting bigger every time out. At least once a month they have one big ppv that draws good to greaat numbers and constantly has free shows.

With boxing we get two or three events per year and the odd notable free card but that's gotten better recently.
