    Boxrec does it again...

The rating system for boxrec.com has always mystified my. i can never understand it. props to them for the leavander johnson tribute, but their p4p standings have been changed again, now jermain taylor is at the number one spot. floyd is at number 8, shane mosley at 9 and chris byrd at 10.
can someone please explain this to me?? i think i have lost all respect to box rec.com's rating system.

    Right.

Over time everyone eventually learns not to honor their rankings.

Most of them are ridiculous to say the least.

Taylor is #1? Does not really make sense to me, even if he did beat Nard. Floyd should be at the top of that list.

I don't see why someone needs to make a thread about this every few weeks.

Boxrec is a database that's exclusive use is as a tool for fight fans to research fighter records.

There rating system is based on an ever evolving mathmatical formula, and isn't meant or claimed to hold any credibility.

Boxrec is a credit to boxing fans everywhere, yet anytime it's mentioned, it's someone complaining about the ratings system, which has never been claimed by anyone to hold the slightest degree of relevence.

Its a shame that their rankings suck, they have a terrific record base of fighters.

My only point was that everyone should know that Boxrec's rankings are useless and not claimed to hold any relevence, thus the bi-weekly "What's up with Boxrec's rankings" threads are futile.

I didn't mean any offense to you, maybe you weren't aware.

what is the complex mathmatical formula, and why do they keep using it if its totally innacurate?

That I don't know, but it's been in place for years, and it's ever evolving. I would imagine their plan is to continue to make adjustments to it on an ongoing basis until it improves.

Again, it's not really relevent why they use it because they are a stastical database, not a ratings site.
