Apparently, despite the "ten rounds of Nigel Benn punches" he was behind on two of the score cards when the fight was stopped on the 10th.

Also, here's an excerpt about the fight

McClellan had never been down before, but he appeared to know what was going on as he calmly listened to the count and rose up at the count of seven. When the action resumed, his legs were very wobbly and mouth was wide open with his mouthpiece dangling dangerously out of his mouth.

McClellan continued blinking rapidly – something was obviously very wrong. Benn resumed his attack with a two rights to the head and then two more punches to the back of McClellan’s head. He followed up the rabbit punches with a right uppercut that forced McClellan to take a knee once again. Continuing to blink in a very exaggerated and rapid manner, McClellan calmly waited for the referee count to ten and then rose to his feet.

The amatuer fight was a very close one that had Gerald out of action for about a month.

This is the ******ist thread in history, by the way.
