Mannys main ambition in life is to become president of the Philippines. How is he going about doing this you may ask?
The Boxing: Ah yes, the boxing. Manny has found himself atop the p4p rankings (whether this is deserved or not is debatable) which helps him attain all the following tools to help promote himself to Filipinos as their idol and world-wide representative.
Endorsements with the biggest companies in the Philippines and the US: This helps him ride the success of big brands. i.e Nike and HP. The goal is not to earn money but to use the brand names to promote himself as a world wide celebrity which is something the Philippines have never had.
His own TV shows in the Philippines- These heavily scripted TV show have one goal- to portray Manny as a down to earth and humble man. Mannys most recent TV show 'show me the manny' is marketed towards the younger teen audience. Why make this kind of show you may ask? well it's obvious isn't it, The teens of today are the voters of tomorrow. (check out some clips from the show on YouTube)
WAPAKMAN: The movie that was panned by everyone who failed to realise one thing- It was not made for adults but for children. The children of the Philippines are important to Manny as they will be the ones voting for him in 5-10 years time. Kids in the Philippines aren't really interested in boxing but they ARE interested in superheroes. Enter, stage right, Manny 'Wapakman' Pacquiao
All in all, Manny Pacquiao is a propaganda machine who honestly couldn't care less about boxing and is using it as his tool to achieve his primary goal (President). I don't know if he wants to become President for selfish reasons but if he truly wants to help the Filipino people then good luck to him. I am however, sceptical.
