Comments Thread For: Martinez Injured, Withdraws From Mijares Bout: Photos

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Raul 'The Cobra' Martinez (28-1, 16 KO's) was forced to withdraw from his scheduled shot at IBF super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares (41-6, 18KOs). The fight was set for May 14 in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. Martinez suffered a bad cut on his nose during a recent training session. The handlers for Mijares are looking for a late replacement. Martinez, the IBF's mandatory challenger, will wait for a new date.

Phucken guys. Have they ever heard of a cross-bar headhear? Who knows when he'll get another title shot! Raul is 29 years old already and has failed to acquire a title yet. He really was a standout amateur and is a very solid pro; the train is passing him by!!!

Raul is the mandatory so the shot is in the bag, whether it's Mijares or whoever holds the belt by the time Martinez recovers from the cut.:smileysex

That cut looks pretty bad, I agree that it was probably from a headbutt.
I wonder who they're gonna find to replace him on such a short notice. The next challenger in the IBF rankings, Rodrigo Guerrero, just fought last weekend. Ricardo Nunez also had his fight only a month ago and Alberto Rosas already lost to Mijares...
Mijares is pretty underrated nowaways by the way, he is not the top 10 P4Per that many believed him to be years ago, but all his losses came against prime opposition (Cermeno twice and Darchinyan) and it's very impressive how good he came back when many thought he might hang the gloves up for good already. Still one of my favorites and the clinic against Jorge Arce was a thing of beauty.
