Better stay away from Ward. Pavlik can make a good fight with the rest that are there though. he and Abraham seem to have lost about the same amount of luster from when everyone wanted to see them face off before. I'd still like to see that one at some point once Ward's done with Abraham. Surely Bute-Pavlik will be in the works too.

Nice addition. But I think a lot of those guys are just better than him. But it's prizefighting and it's where the money is. He would make good fights with Kessler, Abe and probably Carlos Frochos, but I would only favour him against Abe.
He literally won't be in a bad fight at that weight. Even the guys on the fringes of world class are pretty impressive.Comment

if pavlik is able to have his high workrate back again and started moving his head and using angles, he becomes a viable player at any weight class he chooses.
if he doesn't, he's ****ed, no double ****ing jab right ****ing hand is going to save him.
the blueprint is out, stick and move, don't let him plant his feet, dont' stay in front of pavlik, and you out point him and frustrate him all night long.......
pavlik needs to start using the skills and techniques that give him troubles from his opponents inside the ring for his own use. if he were to adapt some of the hopkins and martinez techniques pavlik would be able to really expand on his game and make himself a threat to anyone, but if he keep the same old same with loew, he's going to string up losses and only be good against flat footed sluggers, which the sport is not going to give him anymore like they did before when he was on the rise.........Comment

The problem is, whilst boxing is a learning curve, and you don't stop learning til the day you die..... to a certain extent it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks..... especially when his old tricks are what got him where he is today.
You can sharpen up his technique, and teach him a few new things (most likely how to cover for his deficiencies, defensive techniques, not leaving himself so open, creating opportunities, etc) but it is too late for him to develop some of the instinctive techniques that the likes of Hopkins, and to a lesser extent Martinez, have developed throughout their careers.
It is highly likely that under pressure, and when tired, Pavlik's instincts will revert back to their default settings..... like when the cmos battery on your PC goes flat
He is what he is I think, and I'm not too sure how he will fare at 168.
I want Pavlik/Abraham, or Pavlik/Bute..... winner fights the Super-6 champ.Comment

Good point, hard to argue with that.

I agree with Lead uppercut and with Deuce. Great analyses. Deuce is right about Pavlik's limitations, and Lead is right about pavlikprobably nopt being able tomake significant improvements during fights.
He has his puncher's chance but the smarter, better all around boxers including Bute, Ward, Dirrell, even Kessler will probably take him. AA is a good matchup. Froch recently has shown that he can learn and carry out "new tricks" so he'd take Pavlik to IMO.
