It's very dangerous of course to let them go at it, with the opponent letting the lead man do his thing.

That's why the only way they could make it appear real is use some kind of technology, I don't know. Like, in many fight sequences, non-boxing or not, a slow motion is sometimes incorporated for dramatic effect. They can go backwards -- fight in a slow mo, then speed it up in the editing. I haven't seen anyone do it, so far as I know.
I 've always found it strange that when Hollywood tries to depict something very fast, they do it with slow motion! Not just boxing.

And some form of animation? Maybe the technology is still not there yet? I personally do not like the animated movies. Give me the real stuff or a cartoon, in between, I dunno. So your ideas are good, but maybe still beyond their abilities?

Regarding filming in slow motion, I believe I read back in the day, that they HAD to do something akin to this for Bruce Lee movies because he was too fast for the regular film speed? His punches or kicks traveled too far between frames, so they had to shoot him at a different speed--faster I imagine, and slow it down to normal. Maybe that is the opposite of what you are saying?

I've watched a lot of boxing movies and the only only that seemed to get the fight sequences right was Will Smith's "Ali."

I liked Cinderella Man. I though the director made an effort to make the fight scene's realistic.

I just bought it in blu ray yesterday, so I'll be giving away my DVD version.

Yes, in a sense. Of course, being hit acting in slow motion is different than being hit in a normal speed. At least you get a sense and appearance of really being hit if only they do it in a slow mo. That's why after the shoot and editing, ie, make the fight sequence faster, they need to employ visual effects tech. Nothing is impossible these days. It can be done with proper technique.

Yes, that's true. It seems that they used films of the original fights for Ali.
On at least one occasion they kinda mixed things up. In Rd 1 of Clay v Liston I, Liston's first punch to land on Clay was a punch to his abdomen. The movie has Smith say "Ooofff." When I saw the film of this--it was clearly the TV announcer (Steve Allan as I recall) proclaiming that after the punch landed--not Clay.

You can check that out on youtube.

But you are right, in Ali, I think they tried to dupe the films of the fights.

Of course, Smith was at a distinct disadvantage--he could never come close to showing the hand or foot speed of Clay/Ali. Nor the charisma of the original as well.

Freedom! (damn what a good moniker), as I recall you are right. I believe they tried with Cinderella Man. I gotta see this again. Was a fine feel good movie too.

Actually rated highly at Amazon. Is this the Japanese equivalent of Rocky?

It's a movie about kids growing up, boxing just happens to come into it.
It is a great movie!! You don't have to be a boxing fan to appreciate it!!

                      I post a trailer above
