Here's one where a 48-year-old boxer knocked out a former UFC heavyweight champion. In 10 seconds.

Ray Mercer and Kimbo supposedly had a verbal agreement to go in there and box. Once Kimbo was actually in front of Mercer live and in person he decided to go ahead and grapple instead.

Its not very successful because its too limited. Its almost ******ed to think otherwise. Its like saying "Karate only is very successfull against MMA -fighters and grapplers" or "brazilian jiu jitsu only is very successfull against MMA -fighters and grapplers". It doesnt matter if your a boxer or a wrestler, you still have to cross train today. The only difference is wrestler have a much easier time getting away with cross training because wrestling translates to MMA much easier.

Below is example is generally what will take place.

Well Kimbo has more brains the Sylvia in that regard. Sylvia also had a "verbal agreement" to keep the fight standing only as the Syliva / Mercer fight was actually suppose to be a boxing fight but got changed to an MMA fight the week before because it couldn't get sanctioned.

This just shows that a guy like Kimbo with even the most basic skills for an MMA fighter will basically dictate where the fight goes if he fights smart. Look what Tim Sylvia did. He stood right in front of him, threw a lazy left low kick and Mercer hit him with a right. Doesn't really prove much, except don't stand in front of Mercer like that.

Thats only because of the Unified Rules......... Japan Rules and fightign in the ring neutralizes alot of the advantages wrestlers have in a fight....

There's only one thing an MMA fighter or grappling fighter must do against a boxer: bring him down quickly (that's what Couture did against Toney, and that's what Sylvia didn't do against Mercer).
Against a boxer, you must forget the kicking, the knees, the elbows, and for good's sake, forget the punches, if you're not a professional boxer yourself... Unless you're an excellent kicker, I strongly dissuade you to face a boxer by staying on your feet: you better bring him to the ground before he gets to you with his punching combinations: your boxing skills are useless when you're lying on the gound grappled.
