Well for one, Cotto broke through Clottey's guard rather easily, as did Margarito. Again, that has more to do with physical strength and size.

No, it has to do with Clottey actually opened up and fought back against Cotto (who many thought Clottey won) and Margarito (IMO Clottey was winning until he "broke his hand"), and he wasn't in there acting like he was afraid to come out of his guard and get hit like he did against Pacquaio. It's hard to break the guard of someone who never comes out of it.

Pacquiao total punches vs Clottey: 246 out of 1231 [20%] (Missed close to one thousand punches BY HIMSELF against a guy who was not making him miss WOW imagine if Clottey was just a bit elusive].

Clottey total punches vs Pacquiao: 108 out of 399 [27%].

Pacquiao power punches landed: 34%
Clottey power punches landed: 35%

Firstly, 1000 missed punches as you said, doesn't mean he was hitting air all night as you made it sound. He was landing on Clotteys guard, which was up the entire fight. Secondly, I don't have access to where you're getting your statistics from, but what were Clotteys total punches thrown in his fight against Cotto? Margarito? Judah? Hell, even Baldomir? It's hard to land punches on a guy who stands there with his guard up THE ENTIRE FIGHT and not throwing punches. Clottey only threw (on average) about 33 punches per round (INCLUDING JABS) which is pathetic by any standard, let alone a title fight! Atleast Pacquiao was trying. What would you have him do, stand there and wait for Clottey to open up and actually fight? He wanted to give the fans atleast something from that obvious failure of a fight that Clottey made it.

The question is this.....with a SSM fight not far away now, why are they suddenly bringing up Floyd's name so often......???

Because the press is constantly asking Pacquiao about Floyd Mayweather. And IMO it's not suddenly... they can't ever seem to talk to Pacquiao without mentioning Mayweather. It's not like Pacquiao initiates it, he's just answering their questions.

It's interesting that you say it's "obvious" that Mayweather carried Marquez 12 rounds, but say that Pacquiao "couldn't" finish off Margarito. Any unbias person could clearly see that Pacquiao layed off of Margarito in the last 2-3 rounds. He was looking to the ref to stop it because he didn't want to punish Margarito any more than he already had. But, Mayweather "carried" Marquez. I suppose he "carried" Shane Mosely too then. Your bias is "obvious" my friend.
