The old ones didn't they fought pretty often.
Plus when they started they could fight all the time should be no difference.

to juice up, obviously. Anyone who fights twice in about 3 and a half years I really question as to what they do on their off time. No PED tests but stay in tremendous shape? hmmmm

Because fighters in the past didn't make jack so they had to always be working; fighters make good money today and like to enjoy their spoils. Then they get a bit out of shape from enjoying the good life so it takes time to get back into shape just to go to camp then most guys like to have a camp that lasts 6 to 8 weeks.

You add it up and you can at most fight 3 times a year possibly 2 if not timed properly or there is some hiccup.

I'm sure a lot of boxers would like to fight more (some less), but there's a lot the goes in to negotiations. Purse split, venue, date, gloves, ring size, etc. Takes a lot of time, especially these days with all the egos involved.

The more popular a fighter gets, the more politics will be involved.

There is so much more money involved as well, so fighters don't have to fight as much now like they did in the Robinson era and before that time.

As far as the actual sport side of things, when they start out, fighters fight 4, 6, 8 rounders and even when they step up to 10 and 12 rounders, there competition isn't too good quite yet, so fighting often is not a problem.
