OTOH, if it turns out to be true, kudos to "The Sun" for being the only news source for this story, which allegedly occurred on April 15 and has been hidden for 2 weeks now. (Someetimes, sad to say, the tabloids report the truth when the "standard" MSM does not.)

I understand that the UK has different "privacy laws" than in the US, so maybe this has something to do with it.

If true, is it automatic that the fight is off?

Well turned out to be true as Frank Warren just announced that Mitchell was arrested but not charged.

Kudos to THE SUN for being the only one to report this, despite it happening on April 15.
