Comments Thread For: Bradley vs Khan: Perhaps The Fight Needs To Simmer

By Jake Donovan - Strike while the iron is hot. If there’s a fight to be made, then by all means make it. The longer you wait for it to build up before making it a reality, the greater the chance that something goes wrong.

There are plenty of examples to be cited, but doing so would only conjure up endless – and pointless – debates over why it hasn’t yet happened, who’s to blame, whose is bigger and all that nonsense.

However, there are those fights where perhaps putting a little bit of time between concept and reality isn’t such a bad thing.

A pending junior welterweight showdown between Timothy Bradley and Amir Khan is rapidly shifting towards that category.

When HBO first floated the idea of an unofficial junior welterweight tourney, the aforementioned matchup was one that most experts envisioned as its grand finale.

Khan had long ago put in the rearview mirror a humiliating first round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott, rattling off seven straight wins. His last five have catapulted him towards the top of the junior welterweight rankings, including wins over Andriy Kotelnik, Paul Malignaggi and his thriller with Marcos Maidana last December.

The only remaining road block between Khan and divisional supremacy, is the level of superiority exuded by Bradley over the course of the past three years. His reign began with a well-earned road win over Junior Witter in his first ever fight outside of California, never mind traveling to the titlist’s backyard to score what at the time was regarded as a considerable upset.

As time marched on, fans have come around to recognize that the title win was no fluke. Victories over Kendall Holt and previously unbeaten Lamont Peterson bookended a super 2009 campaign, and has since snatched two more “0’s” with HBO-televised wins over Luis Abregu and Devon Alexander. this fight has to happen, but i have a feeling that bradley thinks way too highly of his worth, and won't take less than 50% - which is ridiculous seeing how he is going to be free riding the entire promotion, and khan will be responsible for 75-90% of the total revenue lol. bradley and his damn head, literally and metaphorically.

I don't think it's so much that he will not take 50%, rather him wanting to get more money than his last opponent (Alexander) will be getting in his future fight against Matthysse. Understandable considering he beat the guy.

HBO fucked up giving the loser of Bradley vs. Alexander a guaranteed amount of money for his next bout.

I could be talking out my ass, but I may be right on this.

I believe this match up wil materialize... or I at least hope so.

What it comes down to is Bradley doesn't want to sign a contract extension with Shaw, especially now that he sees the ticket to a Pacquiao is dealing directly with Top Rank... and Arum more or less guaranteed him a Pac fight through the media.

Truth be told khan never wanted this fight it was evident in the post fight interview scarry bastsaad wouldn't even utter lil Timmy's name . He wants more of the purse performing like he did against the Irishman pfff . Only reason he's popular is because he's trained by Roach and I think
          everyone knows that.

This is really an excellent article by Jake Donovan.

As the author makes clear, the Khan-Bradley may have to simmer awhile largely due to each boxer's quality of last fight as well as Bradley simply not being a draw.

Problem with Bradley is that he is good at winning, but he's not a known or stylisticly entertaining fighter. He was throwing headbutts way before the Alexander fight, who wants to watch that?

Both of these guys need to stop talking so much and fight in a more thrilling way with more frequency.

Not impressed by Khan at all. the fight was being talked about hard before Khan fought McCloskey but once that fight was over, the talks died out. The only thing I give Khan is that he took some hard shots from Maidana and didn't go down and was tagging Maidana up as well.

I love how Khan is being blamed already, yet by all indications, it's Bradley's side causing the problems.

Sign the contract Bradley. This isn't a big dollar fight. Don't deny the fans a great fight because of your huge ego.
