One thing I like about boxing over most other sports is that the actual fighters make a bulk of the money. I hate it when I see all these teams that are worth over $1 billion and yet the total payroll for the team is only like $90 million...These players are worth more than 10% of the teams value. The athletes who put the risk out there should make most of the money. And I hope Nick Diaz does jump to boxing and is successful. If Sergei Dzinzurik can make $700k a fight I think Diaz has a decent chance to triple his current pay per fight.

He'll probably get paid more to fight on an HBO undercard than he would to headline a Strikeforce title fight.
Nick Diaz is a big deal in mma so I am told never seen him fight but Katsidis got 600k for his fight against Marquez.

thanks man I know there were a good amount of European fighters I was thinking of adding like Sturm, Degale, Cleverly, and Dimitrenko I just did not want to take all the time to do so.

How you think I could send it to Iole because he is just dead wrong in this topic and I really thought he would know better than this too.

He's a popular fighter headliner and a champ. He's entertaining as well. Although I'd assume the reason his his purse isnt so great as well is cause he fights for strike force and not UFC. Not that I'd expect it would be much more if he fought for UFC. I remember reading That st. Pierre only got $400k for the rematch with Penn and Penn himself only got like $125k. He may be earning more now but he's a UFC cash cow and that sounds really low.

Kelly Pavlik, Brandon Rios, Abner Mares, Joshua Clottey, Chris John, Kermit Cintron, Vanes Martirosyan, Robert Guerrero, Sergio Mora, John Duddy, and Andy Lee I am sure they make a hell of a lot more than a lot of ufc fighters.

I don't follow MMA, but I have some friends who watch it so I know a few fighters here and there and I can't believe Nick Diaz is only making $175k a fight.

Most Boxers who are on TV make decent money. Tommy Z got like $75k for fighting on the undercard of a PPV fight. And that was barely his 3rd pro fight. I think that's all it really comes down to...If you on TV you'll make decent money. If you're a champ that has a somewhat fan friendly style you'll easily make 7 figures in boxing. While a MMA fighter barely cracks 6 figures.

I can't blame Diaz for being unhappy with the money he makes. I hope he does move to boxing and gets atleast Maidana type of money. He can probably make a decent gatekeeper at 160 or 168.

As you may or may not know, Zuffa (parent company of the UFC) has recently purchased Strikeforce. Dana White has stated that he will leave Strikeforce contracts alone and let them expire. However, it's pretty clear that once those contracts expire, he will pursue the fighters he wants and you have to assume that Nick Diaz will be one of them. To add, the UFC may co-promote with Strikeforce even if Dana White says that it will never happen. With all these things into consideration, Nick Diaz may be getting more money in the future.

As for payouts to GSP and other UFC stars, you have to keep in mind that the UFC often gives backroom payouts and bonuses to their fighters. For example, GSP and Josh Koscheck got an extra $100,000 each for Fight of the Night at UFC 124 from the UFC.

your not telling me one single piece of new information ... ufc 94 which i referenced gsp's purse was actually only 200k he got a 200K win bonus. that same nite in boxing he prob woulda gotten upwards of 5million maybe more. theyre not getting paid what they could be if it wasnt for the monopoly. and zuffa is going to pay them as little as possible for as long as they can. eventually it will change but who nows how long that will be. the ufc is smart enuf to buy up all the comp.

Iole manages to shill for the UFC even in random references like this. ZUFFA ownership makes millions while the fighters don't even see a fraction of the profits and phonies like Iole never dare to question them.

I was thinking the same thing. How he always takes the ufc side on things.

i wanted to do a little comparison of 2 montreal based fighters that are both draws ... although i would have to think gsp is more popular.

in his last fights gsp made 400k purse + 200k win bonus + undisclosed percentage of the ppv. this is one of mma's most well known and highest earning fighters.

lucian bute took a stay busy fight against brian magee not a ppv (well in canada it is but its regular sho) and expected to earn a purse of 1.2 million dollars. thats quite a discrepancy
