Boxing needs a single governing body

Here are my reasons:

1.) To ensure safe and fair practice of the sport on an international level.

2.) To have one definitive champion of each weight class. Casual fans of the sport absolutely hate the idea of having 6 different champions in each weight class and sadly, it's become the norm. If you want casual fans and new athletes to come to the sport, this has to be fixed.

3.) This will also ensure that the fights that need to happen will happen.

Mopoly is not good for the sport..... Jsut look at MMA with the UFC taking over everything.....

You will not at times see the best as champ though. Imagine if say for example floyd had the title, guy fights like once a year and does not care about titles either. If he was champ he would avoid certain guys and governing bodies cant do anything to force him to fight


I think it is good there are multiple belts because it allows other boxers to attempt to become stars, it also leaves others with a chance to get belts if the current champ refuses to fight but does not get sanctioned for refusing like it is done currently

also another issue is promoters, gb and top rank do not do business atm, so its hard to have a single organisation to do it all

all governing bodies need to do is reach a deal with each other to have their champions fight or strip them, if they do that then we will see the champs fight each other a lot more making less champions overall if that makes sense

with that being said, you also have some excellent points, especially the 2nd one in my opinion, there are good reasons for having a single organisation as there are good reasons not to have it. A lot of them stem from politics within boxing with boxers being advised who not fight and who not to fight as well as promoters rivals etc

Well you, me and a lot of other people have been saying this for a while. In my opinion boxing needs to cut a lot of the weight divisions as well. Neither are likely to happen.

It makes sense, it would be like UFC, there would be no such thing as ducking or hiding, people would fight due to ranking, and not to politics or because it's a easy win "manny pacquiao" cough....yea so I would like it.

But then alot of boxers would retire, they wouldn't like to be challenged and fight the best.

I disagree with boxing needs to cut a lot of the weight divisions.

The only one I would eliminate is strawweight. That's the only weight-class I will get rid off. But, keep the rest.

I really don't like the one champ per division thing. I'm OK with 4 titles, I would prefer maybe do what JBC does and only recognize 2, but 4 is alright. However, I would get rid of the super, interim(is #1 contender anyways) silver, recess, emeritus, and all the minor belts.

Also I would have same day weigh-in. There is no need to have a weigh-in a day before. When you have all these weight-classes that are anywhere from 3-8lbs apart.

The biggest reason would be number 3 IMHO.

Monopoly is not good for the sport?

You ever check NFL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR, Formula One, and FIFA?

NFL is fabulously MORE successful than the old American league and National league.
ALL of these are effectively monopolizing the sport.

Formula One is considered crown ***el of motorsports.
FIFA of course has the world cup.

A governing body is REQUIRED so certain fights would take place. Just witness the Pac-Floyd debacle. UFC is successful because fights that ppl want to see are MADE.

I wouldn't get rid of all the weight classes,I'd do away with catchweight fights though,because there are more than enough weight classes already.I would also like 1 champ per division.But the problem from a realistic standpoint is that what would happen to the 4 champs in all divisions place in history should that change??
