Comments Thread For: Yonnhy Perez: I Wanted To Continue, The Ref Stopped It

This past Saturday in Los Angeles, bantamweight Yonnhy Perez suffered the second straight defeat of his career. Vic Darchinyan knocked him down and dominated most of the action in their short lived fight. Perez suffered a bad cut from a clash of heads in the fifth round. One look at the cut and the ringside physician advised the referee to stop the fight. The referee agreed and stopped the action, which sent the fight to the scorecards and gave the Darchinyan a technical decision win.

Perez had a few spots in the fight but his body language didn't look like he wanted to continue.

IMHO, Perez quit. The cut wasn't even that bad.

It looked like he didn't want to continue, but the cut did seem bad though. I can't blame a guy who is losing every round for not wanting to continue when given an out.

it was an arterial cut the doctor told us and wasn't stoppable without assistance (ie stiches)

would not have mattered though Yonnhy's legs were done

Vic called him out, and while it was a ref stoppage, Perez didn't have much left in the tank (mentally).
