    Yonnhy Perez's post-fight excuses (Quotes)

    Yonnhy Perez:

"I know it appeared differently from the outside but I was just getting warmed up. At the beginning, I felt that Darchinyan was not as heated up as I expected him to be. I felt I was making headway in the later rounds.

"(But) I am disappointed that the fight ended this way. My head feels fine. I would have continued had the referee not called the fight. The knock down was legitimate -- he caught me.

"Now I will head back to Colombia, relax and regroup and then decide the next move in my career."

If you call getting beaten pillar to post for five rounds "warming up," then more power to you.

Perez is a great fighter and showed a lot of heart last night but he shouldn't be making excuses. Props to him though for admitting the knock down was legitimate.

And please spare me the posts about how Vic always makes excuses himself, blah blah blah. We know that, and he gets flamed over those all the time

I don't see him Perez making any excuses.

Vic whipped him badly last night.

Maybe excuses is the wrong word to use, but just warming up, would have continued if... are not words that should have been coming out of his mouth after that performance and what many would call quitting on his part. For the record I don't think he quit, but he made absolutely no motion that he wanted to continue contrary to what he wants us to believe with such statements.

Again sporing Vic in my avatar I probably shouldn't be talking about "downplaying a loss" (Vic five minutes after the Donaire knock-out anyone?), but it's only fair to point out when others do the same.
