Generally, boxers just let their managers and trainers pick the right dancing partners for them. It was like that since time immemorial.

First fighter Pac was allowed to pick was Oscar Larios, which was a tuneup fight to please the people in Manila. Second time was when he picked Clottey. Even then it was a calculated risk, but turned out to be a disaster he later regretted. Who would have foreseen one fighter doing all the work in a boxing match? Pac's an entertainer. He had to do the entertaining alone even in the last few seconds of the fight. He was gasping for air. First time I saw Pac breath like hell. He complained in the post-fight interview that it was hard and implied that Floyd might be easier.

From then on, he decided to just let Arum pick the right partner for him. Most fans objected to the Margarito fight, including Pac fans. (I could dig up old threads for this.) Man, if you're a Pac fan this is a huge risk with zero credit. But Arum was set to make this fight happen at all costs. It almost seemed like Margarito was his own son.

Comon man, seriously? One of these days you gotta stop blaming the trainers, and the promoters, but instead blaming the actual fighter.

For real though, Pac back in 01-08 was nasty. I would of never thought that kid who I first saw here in San Francisco against Agapito Sanchez would become as big a star as he is now. Kinda Ironic how both Floyd and him were on the same card. I was a huge fan of his, he was just a fighter, that's what was so great about him. He reminded me so much of Trinidad. He would always fight the best...then after the DLH fight he saw the big money checks he started cherrypicking. Made me sick on the inside.

instead of fighting in a 140 pd division that would solidify him as an all time great he bypasses it for money, which he already has plenty of and for what to beat Cotto who was shop worn and coming off of a devistating career changing loss, and thats his best win at ww

drop to 140 Manny have some prise in your legacy.

there's isn't really anything to criticize except that nobody wanted the margarito or mosley fights. those were fights that Arum insisted on doing. the clottey fight was understandable given that wifebeater didn't want to fight.

After Cotto, it went down hill. The Clottey and Margarito fights were clearly fights where Arum had no intentions of allowing Clottey or Margarito to win.

I give Pac benefit of the doubt. Pac wears so many hats and he lets others do the work. They say x is more profitable and doable, he'll take their word for it. Mosley was done after Cotto beat him. That was the end of his 'prime'. This fight Pac/Mosley just doesn't make sense. I hope the fight bombs

How anyone can really question the Cotto, Clottey, and Marg wins is beyond me.......yeah shop worn off of 1 loss ok, Clottey was a top WW like it or not, Marg a top WW too for many years and still one of the better fighters around that he could have fought, even the SSM isn't that bad he lost to Floyd big deal.
