i wouldn't put him against Cotto yet, but i would most DEF pay PPV to see it happen. If it happens in another year i see Ortiz by TKO. I think the next step for Ortiz is a semi tune up fight like Malignaggi, then Mike Jones/Shane Mosley. I think he's as ready as he'll EVER be. Berto was NO chump. You might be right. On the other hand, Ortiz is kind of a head case. Cotto is consistently mentally rock solid and no longer trying to bully everybody and his brother. He'll fight smart.

I think this would be a great fight, unless Ortiz starts believing his own press and comes ****y. In that case, Cotto by late stoppage and in any case, I'll take Cotto in this matchup for another year or 2.

Cotto still beats him. Ortiz was getting hit pretty frequently while also getting dropped by Berto who doesn't have the power nor the body attack Cotto can apply. Ortiz has the advantage in speed, but he also tends to leave himself open for uppercuts and left hooks (Cotto's punch) and easily gets bated into brawls. I think the mental game by far favors Cotto and both have good power at 147. I see Cotto being a little wiser and selecting his shots and sticking the jab right when Berto tries lunging in with his combos.
