Only good advice I heard the trainer give was that he had to knock him out in the 12th.

One thing is to give encouragement, that's fine but in my corners I'm the only one giving instructions and directions.
If my second has something to say or add to what he sees, he tells me during the round and then I can choose to tell the fighter in between rounds. You can't have 3,4 people screaming out instructions, it doesn't help the fighter one bit.
He needs to be focused on one voice and one voice only.
You mean kind of like how in Berto's corner when he was losing and his trainer was trying to give his shit instructions his little brother kept saying on the side " Be an Assassin" "Be an Assassin" Like lol, i understand he's trying to keep confidence but the dude was already getting bad instructions to begin with...

Berto needs to start being more professional when it comes to these very important subtle things.
They told Berto to string punches together and not depend on ONE PUNCH. They kept telling him that he won't put Ortiz out with only ONE punch. Look at the sixth round where he used his jab, created space, he was landing counters. Berto was flustered with the first jab that Ortiz landed IN THE FIRST ROUND.
I didn't really listen but from what I heard they gave Berto some pretty good instructions.
"You gatta move, don't stay in front of him."
"Move and stay off the damn ropes, touch his body and break his ass down."
"When he reach, you counter him, man. Every time you counter him, you hurt him."Last edited by Bee Keepz; 04-19-2011, 10:47 AM.

Super advice.
It's not the corner's fault, they gave him plenty of good instructions. That **** is all on Berto, how many times did they tell him to "move and stay off the ropes".

However, with that said. It's the people on Berto's team, many of whom were in that corner. That have him walking around with a build/frame that makes zero sense. Let's build this guys upper body like a mack truck and place it on modest legs? He spends all his energy trying to stand upright. Imagine how much energy he's wasting throwing punches with a body builder's body.. He needs to rebuild himself similarly to the way Amir Khan redid his physique. Berto's team lost this fight for him before they even got in the ring however what they added in the corner was also worthless.
