this fight is what boxing REALLY is. 2 technically sound fighters going beyond the decision and going for broke. both couldve pulled a devon/tim... but they DIDNT... they kept getting up & kept throwing down. respect to both.

lets not get it twisted, this was a fight with B-class fighters, but what happened was nothing short of A-class.

did anyone else catch when merchant asked berto about getting new fans because of his gutsy performance?? and berto clearly dismissed it and was more disappointed at the loss.... wow... so much for pleasing the fans.

thats the problem with this new crop of fighters... theyre too fixated at securing wins at all costs to get the next payday & expect elite status immediately... these jokers need to take a page from the leonard/hearns/hagler/duran era... fight REAL fights, the money will FOLLOW. and the fan following...

these kids chase the money COMPLETELY disregarding the fans, then they wonder why they cant sell tickets at their fights.... weak.

if berto showed more fire, he wouldve DEFINITELY earned for fans... but instead he layed on the ropes and looked like he was ready for the fight to be done. hope he learns from this.

Well said, but let's not forget what the new crop of fans are like as well. If you aren't undefeated, or if you were but you just lost your first fight, these fans will completely dismiss you as elite and move on to the next hot thing.

I promise you, if Floyd Mayweather lost a fight, what fans he does have would jump ship and stop talking about him as an all-time great.

Is that fair? Absolutely not. But now everyone wants the greatest of all-time to be flawless. Heart, guts, and a great performance are not enough for the fans anymore. That's a shame, because what you say is true about the fighters.

indeed sir... we sound like some old bitter boxing fans. HAHA

i work closely with alot of UFC fighters, so my respect for MMA has grown... but it still DOESNT come close to boxing. boxing is an artform.... PERIOD.

but the one thing that UFC is good at is bonuses. i feel that if these young boxers were offered a VERY hefty bonus for KO's, or extra perks for being the top performer on their fight cards, the boxing public would see a lot more from these kids. the way these prospects are guaranteed huge fight purses just for showing up kills the sport... imagine? $900k+ for berto & khan?!?!? these guys get groomed to expect big paydays on name recognition ALONE.

we criticize floyd & pac for hand-picking opponents recently... but they did their best work at the lighter weightclasses.... in many ways, they EARNED the right to sit back and collect on name recognition. but these prospects EXPECT the same without putting in the work. completely befuddles me.

you are absolutely correct about boxing fans abandoning a fighter for losing... the one thing i respect about MMA is that losing is not a deal-breaker for fans... boxing fans need to applaud performances not undefeated records.

cause berto just wants the payday, he doesn't care about giving the fans a great fight. that's why he's overpaid and has no fans.
