    Really? Based on what exactly?

I agree that this fight is better than all the other rumored fights.

But if this fight gets made, what does it say about the other opponents that Floyd has turned down because the opposition didn't bring in enough money or is unknown to the fans?

Ortiz should live close enough for Floyd to fight him tho.

Now, before we all get carried away and start slating Floyd Mayweather. This thread to merely ask, Why not?

I am not suggesting this fight is going to happen, nor do I think it will. It most likely won't.

My queston is; Why not? Do we see this as a likely option?

Would it not be a perfect tuneup for Manny Pacqiauo? Considering Victor Ortiz is a strong, fast, southpaw? Which at 147, it seems he is a much more active fighter.

He is now a title holder at 147, coming off the best win of his career AND is under Golden Boy Promotions.

And on top of all that, Victor Ortiz is not a difficult fight for Floyd Mayweather and I doubt Floyd believes it will be either, which means I can only presume he won't mind fighting him for his comeback fight.

Throw the fact he was sat ringside for the fight also.

Again, I reiterate; Why not? I can't see a single roadblock for why this fight couldn't be made.

        Thoughts? Could this happen?

Mayweather actually gave big props to Ortiz when he was first coming up gefore th loss to Maidana, he was saying Ortiz looks like he could be something special. At 147 it's a good fight and i actually think a very dangerous fight for Mayweather.

Victor Ortiz CAN win that fight. First of all the kid is huge, and as far as I can tell from tonight and previous fights, he has no stamina issues. He is a southpaw. He has a high guard and good defense and foot movement. He mixes up his attack, and is a pretty decent boxer. He punches like a mule. He has a great chin and an awesome ability to recover. He is relentless. And after the ridicule for him quitting in the Maidana fight, his heart is among the best in boxing in my opinion. What else... Do you need anything else? And this is coming from a huge Floyd fan.

Floyd's name will sell the fight. Ortiz would come up short on the money in comparison. If I were Ortiz's team I'd rather take my chances with Pac. Floyd would really break him. He could sneak a win against Pac because he's there to hit.

I'd love to see him fight Maidana again and beat his tail, like he should have done the first time.

Floyd is no Berto. Berto had plenty of opportunity to made him pay fighting backward, but he just couldn't do it. He's just not in the level of Floyd, Manny, and Martinez mentally. He tried to outboxed Ortiz, but at the same time he left himself wide open for Ortiz's sluggish attacks. I think anything can happen in the sport, and anyone can be beaten, but Manny is the only one who has a legit shot at beating Floyd IMO.

When he fights southpaws he isn't really that aggressive I mean, his output it pretty much the same and he still only really throws 3 punch combinations maximum. He just doesn't use the sholder roll because it's open to straight left hand's. He's really not that much more aggressive than he ever is Vs. Southpaws, IMO.
floyd fought two fighters named jesus chavez... the first one was a southpaw.

i didn't say anything about his output... i said he goes forward. you've never seen him fight a southpaw the way he fought castillio, de la hoya, or baldomir. he stands in front of them and walks forward more often than not.

Would GBP be willing to put Ortiz in there with Mayweather? Correct me if I'm mistaken, but doesn't Floyd work on a fight-by-fight basis with GBP? Arum has been hinting (not so subtly) that GBP is not going to be part of the promotion if Mayweather-Pacquiao happens.

GBP will make a lot of money for Mayweather-Ortiz, but it's probably not worth it for them if it's just a likely defeat for Ortiz and then Mayweather goes on to fight Pacquiao and GBP is not involved.
