Berto is underrated, there I said it.

I'm saying it now and I want to be on the record for it. Andre Berto is underrated. Yes, I understand that his career has been frustrating thus far but lets not discredit a fighter simply because he has yet to fight a top tier fighter. Berto is young, has plenty of time to prove himself, and prove himself he will. The hate he gets is warranted but it does not diminish his skills.

I have always felt out of all the contenders at 147, Berto stands the best chance against the two headed animal, known as Mayweather and Pacquaio. I'm not sure he would beat either one but he brings a different style and his skills offset the skills of the other two. For example in the Cotto V Pacquaio fight the speed was overwhelming but in a Berto V Pacquaio fight, Mannys greatest asset the punches that you don't see coming would be offset by Bertos speed. There's more reasons why Berto would be a better challenge than Cotto, Margarito, Clottey, Mosely etc etc. but I think you understand my point.

I have no problem with demanding top fighters to fight the best but just to discredit them is wrong. Bertos skills are top notch and if he applies himself he can be one of the best fighters in the world. He has the skills and the "it" factor, now he just has to go out and get it.

What has he done that we should hold him so high?

Hard to say Berto's underrated since he hasn't had any win over top elite fighters. But him undefeated can be a benefit for doubt.

I think he is overrated and the only fighter you named he has a shot of beating is Clottey..Marga's Cotto Mosley Pac May all beat his azz..Do priced himself out not to fight Mosley who many was calling shot..He will try to avoid any real threats at all cost to try to steal(sorry)I mean secure a Pac fight..

FYI Mike Jones brutally KO's Berto not to mention Cintron..

His skill level isnt that high at all. Hes just fast and athletic. He has little real ring IQ. He loads up big punches a lot. His speed may take him quite far but when he faces a better boxer, its a wrap

You don't have to rate him as a top P4P fighter, he hasn't accomplished that but you have to respect him for what he will probably become. People are so quick to throw Berto in the garbage and call him a garbage ass fighter strictly on his resume but they praise fighters like Lucian Bute, despite Lucian being exactly the same fighter as Andre(two guys that have fought less than stellar opponents but show flashes of brilliance and usually out class their opponents). I think my point is you can't take away a young fighters skills based just on resume. Berto is going to be a very good fighter and has a chance to beat either one of the two best fighters in this era of boxing.

I know what Check is up to.

He's gonna talk up Berto for a minute, then turn the thread to talking about hating white euro robots.

              Just watch.

I hate the way Berto gets tied up and ties himself up so much.

He lunges in and doesn't get leverege on his punches and makes fights ugly.

I liked the early Berto, before Cosme Rivera better.

Good point, and also the difference between them is that Berto has at least attempted to chase after the big fights. Bute opted out of the Super Six...

That's the thing.. He's a good up and coming fighter.. Can he be great is always the question.. When you haven't really beat the best=can't really rate you.

Nope, there is no secret message in this post. Berto is just an example because of his fight tonight but it can go for many fighters in the sport. It's fine to criticize fighters due to inactivity or less than stellar resumes but to just disregard skill is ignorant. I have never been a Berto fan but I do acknowledge the skills and actually think when the two all time greats are gone that he could be the best in the division.
