as it has already been pointed out, the war happened for many reasons and I doubt that the majority of whites (with the exception of john brown and a few others) were fighting for the end of slavery. In fact, there was a pact between the north and the south after the civil war that allowed southern states to imprison blacks for any little thing. Like if a black man stared at a white woman the wrong way he could be locked up.

The war actually was not a "blow out" either way the north had numbers and resources but the south had the knowledge of the land and a cause. There were times throughout the war when the Union was looking like the potential loser.

Well I'm pretty sure if Robert E. Lee lead the Union instead of the South, it would of been over a lot sooner. He rejected Lincoln. I think he is one of the main reasons why they lasted that long. But you're right about the land and cause. Lee knew that he needed a fast "blitzkrieg" type fight to win. He failed at Gettysburg.

the real question you have to ask is if blacks never protested/rioted for civil rights in the 60's, would there have ever been equal rights provided for them in this country? and I get the point your trying to make, not all white people are bad but come on now.
