Five possible opponents for Juan Manuel Marquez

Michael Katsidis delivers some hard punches to Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez counters with 10 straight punches and Katsidis starts backing up. Marquez lands two big right uppercuts and a left uppercut. Therefore, the referee Kenny Bayless stops the fight and Marquez defeats Katsidis by TKO. The victory showed that Marquez is still an elite boxer. Who are five possible opponents for Juan Manuel Marquez?

Manny Pacquiao Bob Arum wants Manny Pacquiao to fight Marquez if he beats Shane Mosley. "You come back really to Marquez, that seems to me the most attractive fight," said Bob Arum. Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach wanted Pacquiao to fight Marquez instead of Mosley. Roach thinks he deserves a third fight.

Marquez is still very interested in fighting Manny Pacquiao. He claims to have the formula to beat Pacquiao. However, if Marquez is staying with Golden Boy Promotions a third fight with Pacquiao is less likely. He has a better chance of getting a third fight if he signed with Top Rank. Golden Boy and Top Rank is in a legal battle over the formers share in promotional income generated by Pacquiao. Thus, Top Rank nor Pacquiao will be in a rush to work with Golden Boy anytime soon, or in near future.

Zab JudahNewly crowned IBF junior welterweight champion Zab Judah has expressed his desire to fight Marquez, who plans to move up from the lightweight division. "I'm telling you, he can't deal with me at 140 pounds. I promise you, I would knock Marquez out," said Zab Judah.

Golden Boy has presented Marquez with an offer to face IBF junior welterweight champion Judah or mandatory lightweight contender Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero. Marquez is still weighing his options. However, if Marquez fights Judah if would give him an opportunity to win a fourth world crown.

    Robert Guerrero
Robert Guerrero wants to fight Marquez. Yet, he is frustrated because he thinks Marquez is ducking him. "I come to the realization that Marquez absolutely wants no part of me. I don't want to hear any nonsense that I don't have a big enough name or that he's not going to make the money he wants fighting me, " said Robert Guerrero.

If Guerrero defeats Michael Katsidis on April 9th. It is attractive fight for Marquez because he would not have to move up in weight to fight him. He could fight him at his more natural weight.

Amir KhanAmir Khan has discussed previously how he wants to fight Marquez. Before he fought Marcos Maidana he considered Marquez. However, the fight was never made because of money issues. "Marquez is asking for too much money. He is just overpricing himself," said Amir Khan.

Marquez against Khan could still happen. But, Khan is fighting Paul McCloskey on April 16th, 2011. Then, after that he will probably fight Timothy Bradley this summer. So if a fight does happen the earliest would be near the end of this year.

Brandon RiosBrandon Rios is interested in fighting Marquez. "I've said it before that I would love to fight Juan Manuel Marquez. I would love to get that fight. I've always said that I want to fight the best. I'll leave it up to my promoter and my manager," said Brandon Rios.

Rios is a good young lightweight boxer. Marquez could stay at lightweight if he fought Rios. But, Rios is a not a big name and he is an upcoming fighter. There is only a slim chance of Marquez fighting him.

Juan Manuel Marquez is arguably the best lightweight boxer in the world. These are the candidates Juan Manuel Marquez is considering for his next boxing match

Marquez-Guerrero is a great fight that can be made. If Marquez is still with GBP then the Rios fight can't be made because GBP and TR are at war.

I really like Marquez vs Judah, but he'd likely lose that one. What I really want to see is Marquez taking that brute Rios to school and show him what classy fine boxing is all about.
