JuanMa has hinted at it already: his fight with Gamboa will probably be fought in 2012, at 130 lbs. Lopez fights Salido on Saturday; Rafa Marquez is next in line. Yuri's next opponent hasn't been announced. We'll have to content ourselves with a few interim fights before Gamboa and JuanMa finally meet. It seems to me that the most likely date and venue will be Madison Square Garden, on the eve of the 2012 Puerto Rican Day Parade.

They both wanted it though, I think Gamboa wants it but Juanma doesn't mind hiding under Arum's skirt. Gamboa should maybe throw the PR flag on the floor this weekend because we know words don't push Juanma into a fight, look at all the stuff Caballero said to him.
BTW I really like Juanma's fighting spirit and he seems like a real cool person when he talks but this is his second division where he hasn't fought the top guy/guys.
didnt even get a million for there fight. And that was a meaningful fight
between two big rivals.

I would say Arum is predicting that these guys can each make 3 mil or more including PPV. And it doesnt seem that unreal to me.
Plus you know what kind of slice he is looking for.
You cant compare Barrera and Morales first fight , it was 11 years ago. Things have changed you know. They would have tripled their money if the fight was being made today.
And no Morales and Barrera wouldn't have made 3 times that today, the fighters today ain't making 3 times what they made in 2000 and even if you account the inflation that would only be another $90k from 2000.

Otherwise you need to keep winning like forever to gain respect again, and you lose a lot of money during that time. Look, the money is there, and Gamboa/Juanma WON'T get bigger by beating other people than themselves. The only reason why this is not happening now is because Uncle Bob doesn't want his fighters to lose the 0... mostly Juanma because he has the higher value right now because of the national fanbase. If you can't see this, you're either Rican or you're being blind for whatever reason.
The only other dude they can throw in the mix to make them gain some value before they fight each other is Chris John... but that coward is hiding somewhere in Asia. The only time he tried to get out of his comfort zone it was against a low quality opponent that made him look weak as f*k... he got scared and got back to his lovely land...so it ain't happening. Gamboa-Juanma right now is the best option. People are already starting to lose interest in the fight, starting with me. I was actually more excited about it last year than I am now. And by next year it will be even worse.

This is going to the first big check for both of them.
I think Arum can manage to give them each 1 mil and make the fight after the Salido fight. But Im pretty sure he wants to give them more. Considering the loser will take a fall.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Arum was saying 3 million from HBO or showtime plus a nice gate and sponsorship/international TV money. Just seems like a unrealistic number for two guys who ain't at that level yet, I don't see how fighting the Salido's and Mtagwa's are going to make them bigger stars though. They really need each other to cross over imo and be able to demand that big money for a rematch.

Like I said though who are they going to fight to build themselves up to be able to make a huge purse in the future? Chris John is really going to elevate one of those guys to superstar status? It's better to just make the fights when the people want to see them instead of later when maybe one guy losses. People **** on HBO for making Bradley vs. Alexander after the fact but Alexander almost lost to Kotelnik and if he would have lost they wouldn't have gotten the purse they did.
I think Arum is just postponing the fight because he doesn't want Juanma to get a potential loss before squeezing some easy paydays. I remember before Juanma fought Luevano last year and Gamboa fought Mtagwa that Arum said he would do the fight next, after the card he said "Fuck what the fans want, I'll do it next year when they are stars". Now he's saying next year or some bull****, this is why it's frustrating to be a boxing fan sometimes. We have to wait to see fights that are the most logical and attractive option even though both guys are in his stable.
We can't blame this fight on not happening because one fighter is with Top Rank and the other with Golden Boy, this is all Arum just playing musical chairs and giving us weak fights.
