Orlando Salido on Lopez and Gamboa

(The following is an excerpt from an ESPN.com article by Dan Rafael.)

Salido, 30, said he is happy to have another opportunity to win a belt following his loss to Gamboa, even if he has to go to enemy turf to get it.

"I have everything to gain and nothing to lose; all the pressure is on him," Salido said. "He is the champion. He's fighting at home and everyone expects him to win. Let's see if he can deliver. I did not come all this way to lay down for him.

"This is an opportunity for me to become a world champion again and I look forward to this fight. I expect it to be hard, but with my great preparation, I feel that I can win. I am not intimidated to come to his home country for this fight. I know what I am capable of doing and I will be ready for war on Saturday. I do believe that he is the best featherweight in the world and a great champion, but he also likes to fight and that will be to my advantage. We both have power and will test each other all night."

Although Salido has not yet fought Lopez, he, like everyone else, has an opinion on the Lopez-Gamboa comparisons.

"From fighting Gamboa and from what I have seen of Lopez, I believe that Lopez is the more well-rounded boxer," Salido said. "Gamboa still fights like an amateur at times and he is very fast, but 'JuanMa' looks like he has more power. I guess I'll find out more on Saturday night."

Whatever happens, it will give everyone more ammunition to compare and contrast Lopez and Gamboa on the road to their inevitable collision.

He basically called himself a gate keeper. The last sentence speaks volumes

salido is right lopez is better overall. gamboa is only faster than juanma but still easy to hit. gamboa can't fight inside and it will be his downfall, he won't be able to fight on the outside for 12 rounds. lopez will walk him down and stop him late.

He is what he is. No shame in that. But Salido's no prospect, that's for sure.

he can be a decent tittle holder but looses to the elites or good fighters. he will put up a fight on sat but will probably get koed in the latter rounds.

Gamboa likes to fight from the outside, which is unusual for someone his size. However, it's only a preference, I disagree that Yuri is unable fight on the inside. And, while I agree that Lopez is better overall, it doesn't mean that he'll be able to "walk down" Gamboa. Why didn't JuanMa do that to Rogers Mtagwa? The Tanzanian is nowhere near Yuri's speed, athleticism, explosiveness, power and skill. Lopez will have to rely on timing to combat Gamboa's speed. It'll be a great fight...when it finally happens.

(BTW, is this information fresh enough for you? )

I agree wholeheartedly to the bold. I don't see this fight going the distance. I'm expecting Salido to put on a good show, but he's just keeping JuanMa warm. Orlando is a solid fighter; that's something to feel good about. Not everyone can be the best.
