The point is that it doesn't matter whether a fighter is perceived to be on top, it's not a legitimate excuse as truly great fighters seek out the best opponents and are willing to travel to take on their opposition. Calzaghe did that and won all three times he fought outside the UK.
RJJ and Hopkins have just three fights outside of the US between them - two draws and one KO loss, no wins.
