God Bless You Erik Morales, You Make Me Proud....

    ....to be a boxing fan

last night was not just VINTAGE El Terrible, it was vintage greatness

like everyone and their mothers here and the rest of the boxing world, everyone who tuned into that ppv, tuned in to see a train wreck...a public execution at the hands of Marcos Maidana...i'm not afraid to admit that i was against the fight the moment it got signed but Erik Morales, once again, proved everyone wrong

the old, faded, flabby, sick-looking Morales vs the young badass in boxing

total mismatch? sure...anyone with common sense could see this was a case where ego was gonna get Erik killed...maybe even literally

but something happened on the way to the ring...

it became the Young Badass vs the OLD Badass in boxing except El Terrible added his touch to it...it became

The Young Badass vs the GREAT, Old Badass of boxing

a passing of the torch instead became a giant flame in the ring and we were treated to a fight and performance that is the stuff that legends are made of

to pull what El Terrible did will be talked about for years to come...to do all that with his eye basically drooping onto his cheek is pure balls...balls and heart...but that's Morales for you

last night, you forget all the other bull**** about the sport that pisses you off and you are glad that you are a fan

    thank you, Morales!

I was jumping from joy and clapping my hands when Morales turned 180 when he was on the ropes and started beating Maidana up. Morales got him shook and made him back peddling.

Damn straight. That's why I remain a boxing fan through all the divas, all the scumbags, all the fights that don't happen, because fights like that happen.

              and oh, some other thoughts on the card;

great performance by Guerrero...i actually didn't find myself wandering off into the kitchen or garage to smoke bowls...entertaining stuff against the no-defense Katsidis...he looks real comfortable at 135..looks pretty big actually...perhaps JWW bound real soon? i'd like to see that as well

dont know who i would root for if he and JMM got it on...

Kirkland-Ishida...oh boy...a couple of casuals didn't really see it as a big deal but the two die hards that follow the sport sat there with me...jaws dropped in disbelief...Kirkland's last fight where he got wobbled, i didn't really think much of it...but after last night, this fight fan now thinks Kirkland's chin is suspect...i heard of wars diminishing a fighter's punch resistance...maybe jail does it too? weird how far the time off has taken him

the post fight interview with the Japanese kid, that's gold...the fruity 'WOooOOOOOO!' from the interpreter got the biggest laughs of the night

Malinaggi-Cotto...meh...i smoked bowls and got the carne ready...will try to watch the replay later

                  how about a rematch?

the casuals at my fight party seemed to get sold on a rematch with Maidana...i know i'd pitch in and buy
