pad work is so overated IMO. Unless you are working on a gameplan it teaches a lot of wrong things

OH man I have to really disagree with you on that one. I think Mitt work is the BEST training tool when going over a game plan and teaching proper technique.

It's really one of the few tools that can teach defense, offense and movement.

My best training is with the mitts, especially if I'm working with a young fighter that is fighting a lefty.

A lot of the fancy mitt work you see might seem useless, but it can help with hand eye coordination and speed and reflexes.

May not translate exactly in a fight but it doesn't do any harm IMO if you are only using it for those purposes.

I completely agree. It's how I ever figured out if I was doing things wrong or not.

and too many trainers are doing it exactly for the wrong reasons

if you are using it to gameplan out then fine but all too often trainers use it as a main tool for training when things like the heavy and double end bag are better for you.

a lot of times mitts teach you to punch to a target rather than through it. Also footwork is only as good and the person working the mitts for you.

very few people I know use it for anything other than a gameplan an repetition
