Just rewatched Iron Mike Tyon vs Evander Holyfield 1

Tyson 100% could've won that with kevin rooney, go back and watch round 5&6 the round before tyson got cut(and stopped trying to win), he throws a few combinations in that round the only time he threw them and he mixed them up body and head, at the end of the round holyfield was rocked to the body, the next round tyson gets headbutted 3 times severly, 1 opens up a cut, the second staggers him to the side, the third time you visibly see his knees give out from a headbutt that is visible. And this was a Tyson with 0% strategy evidenced by how he came in round 1 trying to take his head off, Young tyson with the speed and agillity and the gameplans of rooney and co could have beaten holyfield he was pretty close to it in those round but holyfield is truly a warrior

        get real son..

the fact is holyfield fought beautifully .. he fought from the outside got in threw what he had to throw and moved out .. and when tyson came in close holyfield held him like a new born son ... tyson knew he could not beat holyfield ... and i think you need to quit talking about ''if tyson had rooney'' or if ''cus was still alive'' all that other bull**** ... this is reality there are no ''ifs'' ... holyfield beat tyson like a step son ... instead of talking about a fighter who did not care about winning anymore way before he even went into prison just admire the beauty in the way holyfield fought .. tyson looked like an amateur looking for that big 1 -2 thats about it .. get real and stop bringing up the short comings of a mug who had no heart

Your talking about a man that was the undisputed champion of the world. You should give him some respect. At the time Holyfield didn't have **** why didn't he challenge the champ at his best if he was so great. I remember quotes of I don't fight rapist spewing from the mouth of holyfield but he didn't think twice after mike was released from jail. Lennox also was in the wind after his knock out loss. So to say that either of them was better then Mike is difficult to say as they didn't face Mike when he was at his best. Yes they were the better fighters on the nights they fought but to say that Mike would have lost to them irregardless if they fought him at his best isn't very accurate.

This is a nominee for whack-ass post of all time.

Holyfield was set to challenge Tyson in June 1990. He had been the mandatory of all three sanctioning bodies for at least a year. Mike took a different fight...

...and Mike got knocked out by Douglas.

Holyfield took one title defense and then signed for Tyson in November 1991.

Mike hurt a rib. And caught a case. And dropped out of the fight.

Then he went to the pen. Holyfield, accurately, stated he couldn't fight a convicted rapist while all this was going on.

With much of the world worried Holy would, literally, die in the ring, he challenged a Mike who looked like he was getting back to his old self by the Bruno rematch.

            Holyfield KO11.

It's absurd to ask why he didn't challenge Mike earlier. Questioning Holyfield's balls is just dumb.

Holyfield was more man than Tyson. Period.

And to the thread starter, the whole "if Rooney" thing is the most overstated mythological silliness of all time. Mike looked great with Rooney sometimes...and quite human others (Smith and Tucker for instance). He also looked great, good, and bad at varying times with Snowell, Giachetti and Brooks. Opponents count. Holyfield years earlier was even better than he was in 1996 and had far more wear and tear when he beat Mike. he took Mike's best shots, in two fights.

            Did I mention: Holyfield KO11.

Holyfield never ducked anybody. He fought all of them Tyson, Lewis, Bowe. He wasn't scared of Tyson, that's why he beat him, while likes of Spinks were diving in very first round from cowardice.
