    Amateur Boxing

In your opinion, what do you believe are the major problems with our amateur boxing programs today? I the last few Olympics, we had a terrible showing in a sport we dominated. Any opinions?

There is nothing wrong with the system, well except for that computer/clicker scoring. The problem is that society has gotten extremely fat, lazy and soft. The kids today with the grit to endure this sport are becoming rare these days. LMAO, they have banned dodge ball and are trying to emplament only games where there are no losers in schools. It's not the system but rather an evaporating pool of talent. This sport is hard, the softer they get the further our pool evaporates..............Rockin'

Like has already been said, the newish scoring system is the main problem, go back 15 or so years and amateur boxing was so much better then it is now for that sole reason.

The scoring is complete ****. I get so frustrated at amateur bouts now. And I think favoritism is sometimes shown to known amateur boxers.

but that is the same as the pro game.

even with old scoring system bad decisions were still about! lets not forget the reason the scoring system changed in the 1st place

Why did it change in the 1st place? I'm not familiar with that.

the amateur system is such a joke nowadays. It used to practically be the same thing as the pros except shorter length and maybe bigger gloves.

now they have all this padding and headgear and worst of its based on a ****ty 'points scored' system that totally ignores clean, powerful punches. a light jab on the target area scores more than a clean, hard punch off the target area. not to mention body shots are practically useless in the amateurs now.

                    what it used to be:

                    what it is now:
