If Joe was still fighting and PRIME

I think it would be fair to say that him against Froch would be the biggest fight in British boxing history.

I base this on Froch having now proven himself since Joes retirement back in Feb 2009

I can understand Joe fobbing him off at the time, Carl had to produce to earn the right to fight Joe at that particular moment in time. Joe was around 2/3 P4P best in the world (sure some of you will heckle at that) and was duel ring SMW and LHW champion of the world, and of course undefeated. Carl, at that time, had just won the WBC SMM title, but not yet at a level that the marquee best in the world fighters expect in their opponents.

Of course, since then Carl has gone on to achieve a great deal, a two time SMW world champion and a string of world class opposition on his CV.

If only their paths crossed 3 or 4 years ago. If both had their respective records and the timing was right.
What a fight it would have been.

I like that Joe came out this week and gave Carl the utmost respect for his achievements in the last couple of years, and rightly so. It was nice to hear though.

What might have been, eh? That’s boxing I guess.

Who would win? God knows, who cares, I don’t. I’d just love to have seen it.

    If only hey...

I don't get some of the anomosity between Froch and Calzaghe fans still either

Yeah at the time Froch was the unproven one witht he mouth trying to call out Calzaghe and Joe just fobbed him off. There was some words said at the time but it was all an attempt to get the fight on by Froch and dismissive retorts from Calzaghe who obviously had his retirement game plan well and truly mapped out

I have a Welsh mate who still won't come along with me to Froch fights yet we've been to see various UK fighters together

I used to hate Froch when he mouthed off and was a relative unknown. I enjoy watching him. Kessler V Froch was a big fight in my opinion in regards to Calzaghe and Froch. If Froch looked better than Calzaghe then it would have looked bad on Joe. Calzaghe was backing Kessler too and would have looked silly.

Just a shame the Froch who beat Pascal,Dirrell, and Abraham wasn't around a few years earlier.

But in retrospect we all know Froch was doing that in an attempt to goad Calzaghe into the ring. Froch would have come unstuck at the time. I still think Joe would out box Froch but it'd be a hell of a spectacle now were Calzaghe still active.

The UK really does make great SMWs.

I really regret not going to NYC with a load of my Welsh mates to see the Jones fight.

joe calzaghe vs carl froch would've been a mismatch just like Haye vs Harrison
all froch has done is won joe calzaghe vacated title made 2 title defenses lost to mikkel kessler then won kessler's vacated title
