Does Stallone deserve his IBHOF Induction?

IMO, Sylvester Stallone absolutely deserves his induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this summer for his amazing contributions to the sport he so obviously loves. The Rocky movies were a great tribute to boxing and the character of Rocky Balboa epitomized everything we love about the sport. It's interesting that Sly will be going into the Boxing Hall of Fame in the same induction class as Mike Tyson, a fighter whose style and demeanor were foreshadowed on the big screen by Stallone's menacing "Clubber Lang" character from the third Rocky movie, released in 1982, three years before Mike Tyson went pro. Come to think of it, Sly not only foreshadowed the emergence of a Mike Tyson type fighter on film, he also foreshadowed the emergence of Russian dominance in the heavyweight division with Rocky IV which came out in 1985! Yo Drago! Yo Klitschko!

I don't have a problem with it, I think it's fine, and I'm not quite sure why so many people did.

He was inducted as a screenwriter for his contributions to the sport of boxing. Other writers have gotten in for their contributions to the sport. Granted, most of them worked as journalists, but the Rocky franchise did bring many new fans to boxing and got them interested. Budd Schulberg was a sports writer (boxing among them), who's in the IBHOF and was worthy of his induction. He's usually associated with writing the script for On the Waterfront rather than his work as a journalist. Really, what movie do you think had a more POSITIVE contribution to boxing? Rocky, or On the Waterfront?

Rocky makes people want to box. On the Waterfront would make you never want to become a boxer.

          I agree.

Anyone associated with boxing deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Any attention geared towards boxing is a great thing.

Rocky really contributed a lot of interest to the sport.

          Greatest boxing movie ever.

No problems with me too. Stallone has done as much for boxing with his Rocky movies.

Rocky is not only one of the best sports movies of all time but one of the best movies of all time period. He wrote and starred in that movie. He absolutly deserves a spot in the IBHOF.
