I think many people gave respect to Mathew after providing a good showing against Alvarez. He didn't just lie down in that fight, he deflected many of the shots well, and punched back and connected. Its also his commentary after the fight that impressed me as well. He showed respect, but did not looked defeated.

With regards to Ali, he often poked fun at his opponents but never in a hateful way like Mayweather does. He also changed his religion from Christianity to Islam, and went to jail because he didn't want to fight in Vietnam. He was famously quoted for summing up the war in these words: "Here lies the yellow man, killed by a black man, fighting for the white man."

I think Ali goes beyond class because he fought not just in the ring, but also in defiance against the consevative 'white' establishment of the time. Maybe he has outboxed the establishment because we honor him today.

Ali said alot of hateful things about his opponents especially Joe Frazier and about that quote, there was a variety of different races fighting that war for America not just black americans so the quote shows his ignorance more than his wisdom. Whether or not you agree with the draft, if americans were being drafted, black americans wouldnt be excluded from the draft so i dont really see his point. Racism was very common in Ali's era and he would spout racist bull**** with the best of them so hes really no different than any other racist he would complain about.

Martinez is classy imo. He didn't even complain much when he was robbed into a draw against Cintron. He also dedicates his fights to battered women.

Mosley is all class minus the Balco situation.
