The reason for this tread was because I've seen some rather laughable stuff on the forum. If U are constantly are the underdog & outperform ur opponent, that is a testament to how good U are IMO.

I've heard people say that there are a couple of fighters that would be favored in any weight class they fight in.I don't buy that.I'm pretty sure that there are fighters in any given weight class that should be considered rather dangerous & at least fairly close to having a 50/50 chance of beating a star fighter.

For example,Winky Wright was a dangerous fighter at 154 with Oscar being more popular, but if Winky & Oscar fought at that weight,I'd bet my house on Winky quicker than I would on Oscar, barring that the judges were fair.

For me its the guy that is expected to win by the majority of experts, bookies give some indication but its usually a bit off proportion, they can differ depending on place and they constantly change.

Similar to BH being underdog against Tito, because people didnt rate BH that much, or overrate the opponent.

Similar to DLH and Pac. Underestimating Pac and overating the opponent. But since Pac keep proving himself, he is automatically favourite now as he can be trussted to win.

BH on the other people seem to keep him as the underdog as they still aint impressed with him in the actual fights. WIns by spoiling and experience.

"U may be less populat than the opponent" is not correct.

it means people putting money down expect the other guy to win.

to think that the majority of people putting down their hard earned money are just idiots who don't research is naive.

it also means that the people who set the lines, most likely believe that you are expected to lose as well.

the line movement is really where you can determine where the "smarter" money is going in some cases.

HMMMM,just the guy I was looking for.I love this stuff.Wins by spoiling & experience. All things considered,I believe a win is greater when Ur expected to lose, but end up winning. As opposed to being expected to win & winning.B-Hop was expected to lose on many an occasion.I think that's a testament to his greatness.

After all, just like U said, the favorite is the 1 trusted to win, right??So if the favorite gets beaten, isn't that a greater accomplishment than winning a fight ur supposed to win??

Underdog is betting term...it has nothing to with public perception, popularity, or expert opinions...it's about who is putting money on who...

The more people putting their money on a certain fighter or game they will be the favorite and their opponent is the underdog...

                    I voted the "experts" option.

If they are experts, then they probably have a good idea what they're talking about and whomever they calculate to have the lesser chance of winning in a given matchup is probably rightfully thought to be the underdog.

Perception on this (and probably all boards) is gonna' be skewed due to rampant fanboi-ism and (speaking for myself at the very least) lack of expertise.

But these boards exist for all of us in the peanut gallery to have a good time arguing and speculating regardless of how well or uninformed we might be.
