    Joe Mesi shouldn't have retired

I mean his last retirement. Even past prime he woulda licked most of today's sorry heavyw8 competition. Except for the titleholders and a couple others. Would LOVE to see him vs Boytsov or Adamek for instance. They are all small but strong heavyweights with handspeed. Same goes for Povetkin.

Well, I remember reading back in 2008 that he was planning to fight again, but then suddenly not long after he announced he was done with fighting and was running for the political office, senate, congress, wtvf it was.

I guess since he had 7 fights since his comeback, he was cleared to fight. But maybe he found out there was still some jeopardy and pulled the plug on his career.

i'm not a HW guy at all, actually hate them, but i do give mesi some props, the threw a lot of punches and did combo work. he wasn't a world beater, but he let his hands go, unlike most HW's....

Yes, in his prime it was almost like watching a young Rocky Marciano or even Dempsey perhaps. He was all action and guts. He had power, handspeed and a crowdpleasing style. Thats why its a shame he was damaged just when he was about to break thru seriously. That lousy Jirov and his rabbit punches!

he did good, i have to admit that i was pretty critical of his match making, they really did "baby" him a bit, BUT, and i hate to use but's, BUT, he did get rid of fighters that he was better than, he didn't carry guys, or fight down to his softer competition, and he rose up to the occasion.

i think if they moved him up just a tad faster, in competition, i think he would've made a bigger splash and gotten more opportunities, and maybe even avoided the jirov fight altogether.....??? had it gone another route.......

either way, looking back, i have more affinity for him, i miss his work ethic in the HW division........... because HW's during my life went from, exciting, to sporadic, to marginal, to down right boring, and in there was mesi fighting and training like a middle weight, training to be explosive, training to out work a guy, unlike 98% of all HW's now a days and during the last 10 years or so.........
