Comments Thread For: Segura vs Seda Showdown Would Be Great, Says Calderon

The former world champion, Ivan Calderon, has said that if Cesar "Junito" Seda wins the WBO flyweight title on April 15 when he faces Omar Narvaez, then a clash with Mexico's Giovani Segura would make for a great fight. Calderon was stopped by Segura in three rounds on Saturday in Mexicali. Segura intends to move up to 112-pounds. Calderon plans to head back to 105-pounds, where his size will be put to better use.

lets see if seda wins first. he isn't 36 years old with no power like calderon so he definitley has a shot at beating segura. well anyone with a decent punch and skills has a shot at segura but like i said lets see if seda jr. wins first.

First off seda has to win.112? Nah seda would struggle to come down, however he might hydrate properly.seda has already attempted to got a shot at calderon a while ago but never happened. The thing abt this fight If it ever happens is that segura will not bully cesar like he did with calderon.

Agree with the posters. Segura doesn't have that much of a great defense. He goes by the mantra, "the best defense is with the best offense." So, if he meets someone capable of throwing heavy punches then he will get stopped. It will be a meeting similar to Victor Ortiz vs Marcos Maidana two boxers with power punches that can knock people out. Or Pacquiao vs Morales I, Pacquiao with only his strong left against Morales who had power in his punches and knows boxing too. It will be that old storyline again raw talent and power vs boxing skills and power.

I understand where Calderon is coming from and he acknowledge that he has no punching power but he is saying, "hey look at this guy from Puerto Rico named Seda. He hits hard and knows boxing." It is actually a smart promotion for Segura because Seda will be a tougher contender 5'6 feet tall with power.

It won't be like Calderon 5'0 feet tall with no power against Segura who is 5'4 feet tall with power. It will be the reverse that the shoe is on the other side.

Seda wont go down to 112, and at 115 I think he would bully Segura and I dont want that.

I saw how he handles one dimensional fighters when he fought Carita Lopez who is naturally bigger than Segura, my thought is that the result of this showdown is gonna be somewhat similar to what happened in the second half of the first Canchila-Segura match.

Segura might look stronger at 108 pounds, but if he doesnt add boxing skills and movements to his repertoire, as he moves up hes gonna find out that its not as easy to ko opponents, or even take punches as it was at these lower weights.

I don't see what the problem is...

Segura has fought 6 times at 115 so he can make the weight and be fine cuz hes won the fights at 115....
