That fight did go to negotiations. It fell through because Shane wanted the same deal that was on the table before the Haiti disaster, and his drubbing to Floyd. Sorry but once he got drugged by Floyd his stock went down as it should've. Not to mention he no longer held his belt. The fight went from a unification to a title defense with Berto being the Champ. So I dont look at it as Andre pricing himself out of it as his belt does mean negotiating leverage.

Eaner. I respect you opinion a great deal my friend. I ask WHO at WW is sufficient. The division is pretty dry and has been for the past couple of years. And we can all sit here and say "Freddy Hernandez?????? Who's Freddy Hernandez???????". But he was a solid opponent with a pretty decent resume. It was a solid stay busy fight if you ask me.

People don't consider the amount of southpaws Berto has faced, it's not easy to look good against southpaws, and he'll be facing Ortiz next. They also need to understand that the WW division is weak. In my opinion, Berto is very underrated.

no he wasn't bro his two biggest wins are over the ex 130lb champ Mike Anchondo and the ever faded Chop Chop Corley.

also while I agree with you that it was a stay busy fight for Berto I think that's a big reason why there is now disdain for him

                look at it this way

since the title (which was won BTW by beating the ever fearful Mickey Rodriguez) he has fought

Forbes- who had no business at 147 let alone fighting for a belt and I do believe wasn't (or shouldn't) ranked at the time he fought Berto
                Collazo- good opponent
Urango- career 140lb fighter never ranked at 147 then went back down to 140 where he admitted he was a better fit
Quintana- fought twice in the two years between his loss to PWill and his loss to Berto, at 154 no less, and not ranked at 147
Hernandez- fought a litany of non descript and no hope fighters to get his chance and it showed when he literally was KO'd by the first clean punch landed

so short of the Collazo fight which one was the stay busy fight? couldn't one make a case that ALL of these fights seem to be of the stay busy garden variety?

and is it stands this is all being played out to 7 figure salaries and taking up valuable HBO air time. Now normally one shouldn't care what another makes however, in this case, when it goes against a precious and dwindling budget for HBO then it does become the concern of the boxing fan why we are being subjected to seeing Berto go through the list I just mentioned

and he could have fought Clottey, Mosley, Miguel Cotto was still a welterweight until 2010, hell if he wanted a name and stay busy fight he could have fought Zab Judah after he lost to Clottey.

Berto tried to fight Cotto, Clottey and Mosley, did he not? Also since when is Bob Arum going to put in one of his boxers against someone outside of the Top Rank pool, and especially an Al Haymon fighter in this case

did he? I don't know other than passing glances. If so do you have links to this? not trying to be a smart ass I honestly do not remember him wanting fights with Cotto and Clottey with much earnest.

and yes I know Bob and Top Rank have circled the wagons and kept this ******uous. However, does that still make it okay for the list I showed you to be acceptable given the fact that he is indeed the WBC champion of the world?

it's the same scrutiny I will hold to Canelo when he goes on his Berto-esque run.
