    Prime Roy Jones

I grew up watching Roy Jones Jr, and prime Roy Jones was unstoppable, before his loss to Tarver he was 49(39)-1(DQ) he was starting to show his age and slip out of prime before Tarver took him completely out of Prime, followed by Johnson, I wish Jones would had walked away 49-2, getting beat by a younger more athletic boxer, not a bad way to go out, Former undisputed light heavy champ, multiple titles and defenses at Super Middle, to much pride to walk away like Toney and Holyfield, Just wanted to make a thread paying homage to him one of the greatest of our generation and an ATG

He wasn't showing his age before Tarver. He was just caught with heavy punch right on the chin, which destroyed him.

If there was ever a fighter considered unbeatable, it was RJJ

I was amazed by him and his 1 in a billion type athleticism.

But i also think he kind of wasted his prime by fighting a few undeserving fighters

you could see it in the first fight with Tarver, even woods was landing in the early rounds, he wasn't prime when Tarver knocked him out shots like that never came close, he based his defense on his athleticism, 50 fights before 34 is a lot and it takes its toll on some fighters, on top of him not training as hard, I take nothing away from Tarver he landed a perfect punch, we just never knew he had a chin like that until he started slowing down

true but that was all that was left, when boxers today talk about cleaning out divisions, boxers like Roy Jones did it, Hopkins too. he wasn't prime at 49-1

Jones was a special talent for sure. I think the Tarer lose knocked the stuffin out of Roy, but he was on decline from then on. Roy was 'untouchable' is his prime though.

Plus the Tarver fight he just got caught. He should have easily beaten him if not for the KO

But that Took everything out of RJJ and he was never the same

Roy should of stayed at heavyweight and fought maybe 3-4 more times then retired for good

TRUTHFULLY, in his prime, near prime, pre Tarver2, the ring was jsut hsi ":PLAYGROUND" just like a kid trying and doing just whatever he wanted. He played games with his opponents, no matter whom. teminded me of Jack Johnson, who used to toy with his opponents and KO them but hold them up until they'd got their feet under them agauin.

Jones didn't exactly go TAT far, but pretty close, in his own way.
