  • Comments Thread For: Liakhovich Withdraws From April 9 Fight

Former World Heavyweight Champion Sergei Liakhovich has been forced to withdraw from his planned fight with Johnnie White on the undercard of Tomasz Adamek vs. Kevin McBride on Saturday, April 9th at Newark's Prudential Center Arena, Kathy Duva of Main Events announced today.

"Unfortunately, Sergei reported that he suffered a minor rib injury in training, yesterday, and his doctor recommended that he wait until at least mid-April before he engages in any contact," she explained. "We had been looking forward to presenting Sergei for the first time in Newark and we are so sorry that his first appearance with Main Events will have to wait, but what is most important is that Sergei recover fully from his injury."

Main Events is searching for an alternate date for Liakhovich and plans to make an announcement as soon as it is arranged. [Click Here To Read More]

LOL, a rib injury from jumping for joy knowing he is instead going to fight Vitali Klitschko in June.

Rarely does one see an injury withdrawal and a projected "resurrection" in the very same Boxingcene page, within a few entries of one another.

Duva was "playing it smart", by saying that it was a "minor" rib injury, which means, of course, that he can be fully fit and well trained to fight Klitschko early in June, just a monthh and a half later than his postponed fight.

I'd have liked it better if she was honest and said that the fight qith Johnny White had been cancelled due to a clause in the contract (which there either was, or should have been ) that in the event that Liakhovitch receives a world title offer, the White fight can be cancelled.

After all, Liakhovitch is a former world title holder, a good fighter, and not "shot" like some of the others, so it always would be "in the cards" that he COULD be in line for a title fight. Especially in today's world, where the Klitschkos have run through and macerated all the champs, ex champs, and top contenders. Even some not so "top".

I'm expecting that he'll give it a good try, and it'll be a better fight than many of the others.

Looks like the Vitali fight is on, then. Could be interesting, the White Wolf is tough.

Did you even watch that fight? It was great. The last couple rounds were awesome. Unfortunate how he lost his title tho in the last seconds when he should have been allowed time to get back in the ring.

Mostly Briggs's fault. And the ending, though it wasn't good for Sergei, wasn't too boring!

The White Wolf would give Solis a beating. I thought if Helenius beats Peter he might get the nod, but Vitali vs the White Wolf is an interesting fight.
