Comments Thread For: Larry Merchant's Take on The Nonito Donaire Situation

There hasn't been a fighter in the sport who has generated as many headlines in recent weeks as has bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire. But that necessarily isn't a good thing, considering that the Fil-Am fighter's waves were that of the dire kind with the recent tug-of-war between promoters Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions over his services.

Actually when Mayweather fought Baldomir (who was the legitimate welterweight champion), he earned $8,000,001 to poke fun at Arum and Margarito. But hey, those are mere triflin facts that those of us who were actually following the sport back then remember instead off regurgitating things that we've heard from others who only started following the sport in the 2-3 years. Carry on.

I agree with larry. Its part of the sport but it sucks to even know what's going on behind the scenes. The only important question should be when is donaire fighting again and against who. Untill boxing gets it s **** together with a real business model that works in todays world its never going to be as big as it should be.

Larry Merchant the Mexiphobe has waged war on the impoverished Fighters outa Mexico and has hurt their ability to make money and feed their children. Billion$ are paid yearly by corps to promote their products via T.V. commercials because much more will be earned from the positive publicity. When Merchant makes negative comments to million$ of viewers regarding Mexican fighters it results in a diminishing of their ability to make money and feed their kids. Turnabout is fair play. As Mexicans explode in #'s we need to remember Merchant's kids and grandkids and diminish their ability to make $$$ by boycotting any businesses or products they own or invest in. Just watch and wait, Larry. Just watch and wait.:smileysex
