Nicolino Locche

This Argentenian former Light-Welterweight champion died last week aged 66.

I've never heard of him before, but want to seek him out after reading Boxing News editor Claude Abrams praise him highly as "the greatest defensive boxer of all", even better than Willie Pep. "Locche could tuck his chin behind his shoulder, stand on a sixpence without moving his feet and make his opponent miss more effortlessly than the Pretty Boy can."

In a country where draws are common, Locche's final record was a staggering 118-4-14. While Locche was reputably a defensive master, only 14 of his 118 wins came from knock outs. Of his four defeats he was only stopped once, and that was on cuts.

I've never seen this man before, but I know I want to. Anyone else?

Check out the *******s sites and you will find some of his fights. I saw the one when he won the WBA Jr. Welter belt. It was very impressive to say the least.

Some months ago, I started a thread here in the Forum about feather-fisted champs throughout history, and specifically mentioned the great Argentinian defensive wiz. Nicolino was enshired in Canastota fairly recently--about a couple of years ago.
