The legal battle to determine which company holds the promotional rights to WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire - is quickly heating up. On Monday, Arbitrator Daniel Weinstein issued a ruling in favor of Top Rank. Weinstein ruled that Golden Boy Promotions violated a previous agreement with Top Rank, which directs both companies to refrain from poaching each other's talent.

This doesn't say anything about whether Donaire is still under contract with Top Rank. It just says that Golden Boy is not allowed to sign Donaire yet.

this was a really really dumb move on Donaire's part.

unless he's willing to let TR promote his next few fights and basically bend over ... he'll be in boxing limbo until his contract expires.

          what a waste of time.

If Donaire thought it was bad before, if it is ruled that his contract with TR is valid, then he's gonna be stuck fighting for a guy who there's bad blood with. That never seems to work out well for the fighter (i.e. Don King). AND, until this whole legal mess gets worked out, Donaire is going to be stuck inactive and unable to fight for anyone - which, I'm sure Arum will argue, will continue to extend Donaires contract with Arum even further.

This is not good for Nonito Donaire, or the boxing fans. If Arum wins this battle, Nonito is going to be stuck having to "dance with the one who brung em [to the dance]".

WOW! I thought Golden Boy really investigated and thought this through with legal advice? What a dumb move on the part of Golden Boy promotions. Why are they paying all this money to these lawyers if they can't even figure out a simple thing like this and know it will not be in their best interest? Looks like Nonito Donaire is going to be on the shelve for awhile.

I understand where you are coming from but fact of the matter is that it still affects Nonito Donaire's career.

                    Dumb move by Donaire

How can you try to sign when you dont even know if your contract is over. Lawyers go through years of school to interpret these terms

And Also GBP is a scumbag for trying to pull this, again
