For those of you that know about Spaddy

I always heard him say that he couldn't generate real power because he got shot in the leg. Anyone buying this? He was a slick ass boxer and very accurate. Really dude had one of my favorite styles a la Sweet Pea, JT, Collazo, Floyd etc. Standing in front of you and pot shotting and making you miss all day.

On top of that, he was a huge LW.

Do you think the gunshot would was really the reason for his lack of power, when I watch he did sit down on his punches, but obviously they weren't att that devastating.

Nah, he always looked like he can punch at full power, generate the most out of his punches, only that he wasn't a puncher. He's not like Paulie who can't seem to do that.

I kinda agree, he almost always punched with both feet down while paulie might punch with no feet on the ground

chris byrd also had a similar style to spaddy.

JLC would have run through spaddy i'm afraid.

first off walt, awesome avi, that pic tripped the " i gotta watch **** now " button....

secondly, i think that if the gunshot wound did have an effect, it's psychological at this point.

i just think his mechanics slip in and out of where his power is, because he can sit down on his punches well and has done so before...

as a guy with a minima amount of ko's on his record, at some point in his fights guys tend to earn respect for him because he's placing shots well, which he has to have some power to have kept them off of him.........

he's a slick fighter, so i think defense is his primary tactics, even in his offense...............

It's hard to say, JLC struggled with Casamayor, Stevie Johnston, 2 good southpaws. Always seemed like Joel and Johnston knew how to tie up Castillo's left hand, neutralize that punch. I'd probably lean towards Castillo, not sure. I know one thing, I like Spadafora's defense better than Stevie Johnston's.

It's one of those things you know man, because when you root for Paulie that's the main thing running through your mind, I'm like "Plant your feet, tighten up a little, shift your weight into those punches". Paulie does none of that

thanks about the avi, its one of the two pics in boxingscene history that have gotten play twice as my avi.

first off, im talking only about pre-incarceration spaddy.

spaddy definitely had some power, but he said on record that he couldn't generate the power he should be able to because of the wound, maybe it ***ed up his tendons or muscles. spaddy got respect from a couple power punchers, shi t manfredy pitty patted the whole fight against him- completely the opposite of what he wanted to do and sosa threw biombs but could never land and got taken to school.

his mechanics did throw off his power, he threw a lot of rights while standing completely perpendicular to his opponent and a lot of straight lefts while moving right, but on the inside he threw a tone on punches with both feet planted.

would ya'll say spaddy was a b, b+, a-, or a fighter at his peak.

I'd have to go with very solid b, dude's d was for real. he coulda made the dorin fight easier and possibly been an a fighter

Can't seem to find that fight, one against Victoriano Sosa, know where I can get it? Is it in the video trade section?

but casa and stevie could get more respect from jlc. jlc's left hook is what I keep thinkng about.

i like spaddy's d better too. i loved watching him- almost as much as floyd back then....

see whne paulie started planting and tighetning up consistently he started getting in wars, which he wasn't built for.

sosa put him down early and spaddy came back and dominated in a big way after- controlled the pace and landed basically at will. showed a lot of heart. it might be in the trading section, but I know its not on youtube.
