De La Hoya was off for a year and went right in to fight top guy Floyd, sure he lost but it wasn't a big loss by any means. One year off is not that much, especially if you are great at something or at least half as great as you claim to be. So why does he need a tuneup like making Marquez jump up two classes or going after nobodies like Spadafora?

So there's no excuses if he decides to fight MP after?? Maybe because he's fought twice in the last 4-5 years?? Tune-ups are the boxing norm for fighters who have been inactive. It's not a big deal at all as long as he fights a legit opponent in his next fight and he doesn't make us wait another year to see it. Floyd should take this fight in June or July and fight again in Nov or January.

In an interview with Brian Kenny on ESPN, prior to Mayweather’s fight with Juan Manuel Marquez in 2009, Kenny asked Mayweather why he chose to return to the ring.

Mayweather responded, “’Cause I want to. ‘Cause I want to come back and steal some more money.”

i dont get it either.....ray leonard who fought hagler right away after comin off retiremnt is a good example......****, even shane mosely was inactive for 16 months and he did'nt need a tune up prior to facing floyd.....floyd just does'nt have the warrior mentality, he just does'nt....

That's why fight fans must not buy this fight to show Floyd that boxing doesnt need him anymore i think that would hurt him the most and push him to fight sergio or pacman.

Floyd tune up gave the number one p4p fighter in the world hell, and it was a cake walk. He even dominated the man who destroyed margarito coming off a tune up...

The p4p figher in the world fought clottey after losing to cotto and margarito after losing to shane, and now shane after losing to mayweather...how many tune ups are those??

seriously tho, the spada thing is just dumb. he shouldnt be fighting him, that simple.

but how many guys can claim jmm as a tune up??? and what are u guys gonna call him when manny fights him at 147, as he almost certainly will after the mosely fight??? if u guys dont come out and complain about that, then ur definitely being hypocrites.

it's ok for wifebeater to get a tune up for pac, but he shouldn't get paid ppv money for tune up fights.

He has only fought twice in the last 4-5 years because he is so afraid of losing that zero he waited til all the top guys fought each other then decided to come back. Mosley was off for almost a year and a half and fought floyd with no tuneup in between, but all the floyd fans claim that Floyd fighting him was so great but then claim that mayweather needs a tuneup after less time off then that?

Marquez at 135 as opposed to 147, I know your biased but i'm sure you can see the difference
