William Joppy, turned himself in to police without incident at about 3 p.m. on Sept. 14 after a warrant charging him for an assault was obtained, according to police.
Police charged Joppy with first-degree assault and is being held at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections under a no-bond status.
At about 5 p.m. on Sept. 8, police said the suspect approached the victim at Ritchie Road and Walker Mill Road in Temple Hills. The suspect and victim, who are acquaintances, began to argue, and the suspect then reached inside the victim’s vehicle and began to choke the victim.
In an attempt to stop the assault, the victim sped away, with the suspect giving chase in his vehicle and striking the victim’s vehicle several times in the rear, which caused the victim’s vehicle to spin out of control. Police said the suspect subsequently fled the scene.
