...Most boxing fans feel Ortiz was a product of the company that promotes him and never really proved himself. They also felt (dare I say it) a "quitter". I beg to differ but that's just my opinion. Ortiz coming out party (if you will) was against hard hitting Marcos Maidana and the fight ended with Ortiz getting off the canvas in a post fight interview pondering quitting the sport after just 1 loss. I personally felt he was speaking out of emotion so I didn't really put any stock into it . Boxing fans are very nostalgic and they have seen guys like Ricardo Lopez, Margarito, Chico, Morales, etc. fight damn near blind...they have little patience for a fighter willing to quit after 1 loss.
That being said, Ortiz can clean his slate in a few weeks when he squares off against Berto. Ortiz has left his residence of the hottest division in boxing (Jr. welterweight) and is now headed north to the 147 limits. The pick: Berto hand picked opposition may come back to haunt him in
this contest. Ortiz has tasted defeat and humility and he's coming
off a very competitive fight against Lamont Peterson. It's simple for
me, my chips is on the more "battle tested" fighter and that's Ortiz
as of right now. No x's and o's, sometimes it comes down to just
that... [Read Full Article]
